You can joke about anything else, but not my mother's private parts. A
Plumtree man was stabbed on the head with an okapi knife by his friend
whom he had decided to insult by referring to his mother's private
parts.
The two friends Oscar Mpofu (28) and Mandla Nkomo (34) were at a
neighbour's homestead having a casual chat when a misunderstand ensued.
Mpofu is reported to have accused Nkomo of being a 'Mr Know It All', who
never wanted to consider other people's views. Nkomo was offended by
his friend's sentiments and hit back by insulting Mpofu by referring to
his mother telling him that he should respect him.
Mpofu never took the insults lightly as he became furious and pounced
on Nkomo and a fist fight ensued immediately. Nkomo tried to apologise
saying what he said was just a joke, but the fuming Mpofu would not
swallow such jokes arguing that his friend had crossed the line. Mpofu
is reported to have told his friend that they could joke about anything,
but not his mother because by so doing it made him suspect that the two
were having an affair behind his back.
Mpofu ran to his house and returned armed with an okapi knife which
he used to stab his friend on the head. Realising that his life was in
danger, Nkomo fled from the scene and rushed to report the matter to
police. He was ferried to hospital and a medical examination was
produced in court as exhibit.
Mpofu was hauled before magistrate Mr Livard Phillimon facing assault
charges. he pleaded guilty to the charges saying his friend had
provoked him and he was remanded in custody.
